SUITE D  -  "THE BLACK & WHITE ROOM"
« BACK TO ACCOMODATION

THE WHOLE SPACE OF THIS ROOM AND ALL OF ITS FURNITURE ARE AN UNIQUE INSTALLATION BY ITALIAN ARTIST EUGENIO PERCOSSI, ONE OF THE TWO CASTLE OWNERS. EVERYTHING IN THE ROOM, FURNSIHED IN 1930S STYLE, IS COLOURED IN ENDLESS SHADES OF GREYS AND BLACKS, AS IN A PERIOD PHOTOGRAPH. THE OAK PARQUET FLOORS ARE STAINED BLACK, THE WALLS ARE DECORATED WITH A DELICATE GREY STENCIL MOTIVE FROM THE PERIOD, ALL THE FURNITURE AND THE DOORS ARE GRAINED IN BLACK AND WHITE. EVEN THE PAINTINGS ON THE WALLS, THE BOOKS ON THE SHELVES, THE PLANTS ON THEIR STANDS AND THE FRUIT ON THE TABLE FOLLOW THE COLOUR THEME. THE INSTALLATION IS A REFLECTION ON MEMORY AND A HOMMAGE TO THE VRANY FAMILY, THE LAST PEOPLE TO LIVE IN THE CASTLE, BEFORE THE WAR AND THE COMMUNIST PERIOD BROUGHT CASTLE LIFE TO AN END. WE ONLY KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THEM, WE HAVE FOUND JUST A COUPLE OF B/W PHOTOS, THEIR TIME IS NOT SO DISTANT BUT ALREADY TOTALLY GONE. THE INSTALLATION IS THEN A SORT OF TIME MACHINE, WHERE VISITORS CAN COME AND LIVE FOR ONE NIGHT OR MORE, BRINGING THE COLOUR OF THEIR BODIES AND THEIR CLOTHES – OF THEIR LIFE – TO A COLOURLESS AND TIMELESS, REALLY ENCHANTED SPACE.
